Method -
Neuromus is an email-based mailing list run on L-Soft Inc.'s "LISTSERV"
email manager software. This website, and the pages that it links to,
provide opportunitites to interact with the list using familiar and
intuitive web-based forms.
List's Mission -
Our primary objective is to provide a RESEARCH-oriented forum for the
discussion of issues and questions related to the neuromuscular control
of motor performance in human and animal models.
Target Audience -
We've assembled an international group of professionals and students in
the basic, applied, and clinical disciplines encompassing movement
science. At last count, the list had over 1,000 subscribers from 23
countries. The list volume (number of postings per week) is generally
light.
Affiliation -
The list has no official affiliation nor sponsorship by any
organization. However, time and technical assistance are provided by St. John's University, The Medical College of Ohio, and movementSCIENCE.org. The list moderators are Roger Enoka, PhD (University of Colorado, Boulder - USA) and Andy Messaros, PT, PhD (The Medical College of Ohio, Toledo - USA).
What is appropriate for discussion on Neuromus? -
A range of topics are appropriate for discussion. Suggestions include:
- muscle ultrastructural plasticity
- reference frames for UE grasping
- motor unit behavior in the elderly
- pain/sensory input during movement
- descending pathways on segmental pool
- training effects on cortical maps
- role of muscle mechanics in motor control
- muscular control of posture during reaching
- cellular mechanisms of fatigue
- open- and closed-loop control
- human and animal models
- pathologic and non-pathologic models
- get the general idea??
When possible, please try to keep your postings centered on the
neuromuscular aspects of movement. We know this is sometimes difficult
given the interdependency of neuromuscular, biomechanical, and
biochemical processes in movement.
What is inappropriate for Neuromus? -
Do not use this list to post job opportunities for physical therapists
UNLESS the position involves (specifically) the neuromuscular control
of movement *and* research in an academic setting. Other commercial
announcements should be forwarded to the list's coordinator first
(admin AT neuromus.org). Neuromuscular faculty positions, post-doc
positions, conferences, and grant opportunities are encouraged. Please
consider adding such announcements to the databases at movementSCIENCE.org. Announcements for continuing education courses (versus conferences)
are appropriate for the mSCIENCE.org website, but NOT for the Neuromus
list. All Neuromus list postings should deal with some aspect of
research. Clinical discussions are welcome and encouraged, but should
be framed in a research context. Posting questions that ask for a
diagnosis based on clinical signs/symptoms is NOT appropriate unless it
is posted by a health care professional and centers on research.

How can I know what my email header address is? -
Send yourself a message from that account and look to see the address stamped "From".
Is there a difference between "broadcasting a message on the list" and "posting to the list"? -
Nope.
How can I broadcast a message to everyone on the list using my email software? -
From the email account that you registered with Neuromus, simply send your message to
What is "maelstrom"? -
It is the name of the server that houses the Neuromus list at St.
John's University. It is means "a violent or turbulent situation; a
whirlpool of extraordinary size" (American Heritage Dictionary, 2000.)
Is there a way that I can broadcast a message on Neuromus using a web-based form rather than my email account? -
YES! Login here to access the web interface to Neuromus. If you don't have a web access account, read further.
What is the easiest way to update my Neuromus list account settings? -
Use the list's web interface by logging-in here If you don't have a web access account, read further.
Why should I register to access the web interface of Neuromus? -
The web interface allows you to do many things that would otherwise
require you to learn text-based listserv software commands. Through
simple web-based forms you can do things like POST TO THE LIST, modify
your email address, put your mail on hold while taking a holiday,
change how you receive the list's email, etc. Note - Being a list
subscriber does NOT automatically register you to use the web interface.
How do I set-up a web account to access Neuromus? -
You must go through a simple one-time registration form
(a new browser window will open). During the registration, you will be
asked for an email address and password combination to access the web
interface in the future. Please note that the email address requested
of you on the registration form is analogous to what many websites call
a 'username' at login.
What if I lose my web interface password? -
follow the instructions here
I subscribed to the list, but stopped receiving messages. Why? -
There are two possibilities. First, you may have set your Neuromus list
parameters to NOMAIL mode. You can check this by creating a web access
account and examining your account's parameters. Second, and more
likely, your institution probably changed your email address header
without telling you. You'll need to check that the email address that
appears in your header is the same as the email address that is
registered on the Neuromus list (see above for details).
I subscribed to the list, but the list won't let me post a message. Why? -
See the answer above. There is a mismatch between your email address as
it appears in your message's header vs. the email address used to
subscribe to the list. You need to update the email address registered
on the Neuromus list so that it matches the address stamped by your
outgoing email server (see above).
